Commercial shipping is governed by a number of regulations covering Safety at Sea Requirements.
Most but not all commercial shipping is required to carry a CAT 1 Epirb.
Some comercial vessel's are only required to carry a CAT 2 Epirb.
The primary difference between Cat 1 and Cat 2 is that the Cat1 Beacons are usually housed in Shipbourne weather proof housings and are designed to be Automatic Activation, Float free with Hydrostatic release.
