Recreational Marine Vessels EPIRB Requirements are governed by Local Goverment Regulations.
In Australia any vessel travelling more than 2 miles offshore must carry a registered 406 epirb,
Regulations do not mandate Cat 1, Cat2, GPS , non GPS Epirbs, Auto Activation or Manual Activation.
These choices are left to the individual.
When choosing which Epirb is right for you it is worth considering :
How often will I be more than 2 Nautical miles offshore ? Once or twice a year fishing trip ? Then perhaps a low cost non GPS unit will suffice. Planning several passage making trips: Then perhaps a more advanced Epirb and start considering if the added safety of GPS is worth while. Am I governed by any Local or Sailing Regulations?
Mainstay is very focused on our primary goal of providing professional technical services as a V.A.S. (Value Added Service) to every product that we sell. Throughout our website you will see V.A.S.
For example with all Epirb's, PLB's and ELT's purchased from Mainstay the purchase will automatically include Testing and Certification service for the following year. This "value add" represents a saving of over $100.
